ANNOUNCEMENT: Minds Matter Boston Appoints Executive Director

On behalf of the entire Minds Matter Boston Board of Directors, we are pleased to announce that we have hired Rachel Kanter, 2015-2016 President, as the Executive Director of the program.

As Minds Matter Boston continues to grow and serve more students, we believe it is crucial to have a permanent face of the organization who can devote each day to ensuring our near-term and long-term successes.

We are confident that Rachel will be an excellent leader and steward of our mission to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success.

We hope you will all join us in congratulating Rachel on her appointment to this very exciting and important position.

SPOTLIGHT #7: Adrianna

Meet Adrianna (center), a sophomore at City on a Hill Public Charter School.

Over the past year, Adrianna was inducted into the National Honor Society, accepted into multiple competitive summer programs (with full tuition scholarships!), and consistently brought her positive, outgoing & friendly attitude to weekly session.

This summer, Adrianna will be attending Brown University for their Summer@Brown program, participating in Cheer Camp and traveling to Italy. We're so excited for you, Adrianna!

Minds Matter Boston is committed to making college education a reality for accomplished high school students from low-income families since we first opened our doors in 2003. Students are paired with two mentors and spend time during weekly mentoring sessions working on summer and college applications, standardized test preparation, community service efforts, writing and speaking skills, and other life skills that benefit the student academically and personally. 

We are looking for motivated, talented high school students and passionate, diverse young professionals to join Minds Matter Boston for the 2016-2017 Academic Year.

  • MENTEE: Applications can find found here and will be accepted through Thursday, May 19th (first round) and Thursday, September 22nd (second round).
  • MENTOR: Applications can be submitted online and will be accepted through Friday, September 23rd.

SPOTLIGHT #6: Joseph

Meet Joseph (center), a sophomore at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School in Cambridge, and his mentors, Jamal (left) and Cecily (right).

This year, Jamal and Cecily worked with Joseph to apply and gain acceptance to a top-tier summer program. Jamal is excited that Joseph will have the opportunity to meet other high school students from around the world while getting a glimpse of the college experience.

At Minds Matter, we are able to provide full tuition coverage to academic summer programs for our mentees through donations and support from the community.

April 26, 2016 marked College Signing Day and we are thrilled to share some stories about where our seniors are headed in the fall. Read on for some exciting updates!

Berline, a senior at Prospect Hill Academy Charter School, was accepted Early Action to Williams College.

Briannally, a senior at Boston Latin Academy, was awarded a Posse Foundation Scholarship and will be attending Bucknell University.

Eddy, a senior a City on a Hill Charter Public School, will be attending Colby-Sawyer College with a full tuition scholarship.
